Of Days Like These...
Tuesday, December 09, 2008
Hibernation time is here. Temperature in The Sandpit has dropped significantly over the past few days that I couldn't resist snuggling under the blanket and reach for a good book. And reading soon leads to sleeping the day away.
Sigh.
Oh well, that pile of clothes waiting to be laundered could wait till another day.
Recently had training with a few of my batchgirls, hence we did some catching up over dinner and shisha.
Alice, as always, is hilarious and full of sarcasm.
How time flies. It's end of the year already. And inevitably, amid the celebrations, this time of the year also makes one look back and reflect over achievements and failings. The should-be's and the could-be's. The happiness and the heartache.
Next year will be exciting.
Sigh.

Fall.
When the warmth of summer is all but a fleeting moment and there's a certain chill in the air.
Fall.
When the forest is ablazed with flaming reds and yellows, and some part is gleaming with silvery tips.
Fall.
When I chase away the autumn cold with a cup of coffee liqueur in the company of a warm-hearted soul and chat the blues away.

Today is Klyie's last day in The Sandpit. She now adds to the statistics of people I know who have left.
No more delicious, nutritious herbal soups for me.
I couldn't see her off as I need to work. But rest assured, babe, my thoughts and best wishes are with you.

I still remember our first trip to Hong Kong together. Traipsing around Tsim Tsa Tsui looking for food (and felt beaten seeing an auntie downing a bowl of noodles, a bowl of dumplings AND a plate of choy sum). Or how I had to buy clothes as all I had were thick sweaters (due to weather misinformation by you-know-who). Come to think of it, she was the one I spent most of the layovers with.
Dear Klyie, you are perfect the way you are. Do not always feel the need to please someone in order to be accepted, as if that's the case, then that person is not worth your time nor effort. Thanks for all the wonderful memories (cycle until cibai also sakit) and ALL of us shall meet again one fine day, sipping coffee in Old Town instead of airport Costa Coffee.
And stop buying so many shoes! You're not millipede!
Now go blow their minds away in KE.

Of Spring Festival Is Truly Auspicious

I just got to know a surprising news from my best friend. Delightful surprise anyway.
I know what you did last Spring Festival ;)

Of Not Quite Swiss Miss
Friday, April 25, 2008
According to a survey conducted, Zurich is the best city to live in as far as quality of live is concerned. It's hardly surprising as Zurich excelled in all the quality of living criterias such as personal safety and health, education, economic and environmental factors, transport and public services and political (one can vote for everything under the sun and Swiss generally go voting once a month!). Which is super for people living there, but for visitors like The Princess, it will burn a big hole in the wallet.
Expensive or not, The Princess went exploring nevertheless. She and Thembe, her South African colleague, went touring up to the highest mountain in Switzerland, Mt. Titlis. They passed by Zurich and Lucern before reaching Engelberg. One thing she noticed, roads in Zurich are all quite narrow. And Swiss like holes. How else do you explain the numerous numbers of tunnel found?

Mt. Titlis beckons

We then boarded a cable car to half-way of the mountain, before switching to a revolving cable car Rotair. Rotair is able to hold 60 people at one time (skiing gears and all). There's a revolving platform in the middle, presumably for hooking up with girls/guys (Nah, just to give a 360° view of the scenery unfolding down there). Cool concept, though.

We finally reached the highest point the cable car could carry us at 10,000 ft. And it was so cold I could have kicked myself for forgetting to bring gloves along. But not as so hai (stupid) as one girl she saw lar. See, she went up to snowy mountain wearing only tights and dress-top and high-heeled boots. This is what you call "oi leng mm oi meng".
My butt was frozen and raw afterwards
Another attraction of Mt. Titlis is the Glacier Grotto. Visitors could walk into this cave and through the 150m long tunnel down to 20m under the glacier's surface. The glittering ice walls, bathed by changing colourful lights are amazing. There's even a jukebox near the entrance should you have the sudden urge to listen to Bach or Negaraku (yes, Malaysia anthem) while admiring the ice walls.

At first I was standing and posing....
Then I fell down the slippery ice but
managed to control kiutness
America's Next Top Model
I actually suffered from altitude sickness as the
cable car climbed higher and higher (ironic, I know)

For some inexplicable reason, I attract Indian guys. Like this over-friendly uncle, kept asking me to take picture with him. We took like 3 shots together lor. Uncle, don't cut out my face and paste on some naked woman's torso hor. Princess here can curse pretty darn well. Nanti mati pun tak tau kenapa.

My tour guide is a jolly old man
And then we took the train back to hotel. Totally devoid of passengers except for the two of us.

Scary....

Didn't manage to try any cheese/chocolate fondue, but went to Marché Restaurant (yes, the Swiss chain restaurant with the cow mascot that can be found in The Curve). But it's much more cool here lar, cos they have smoking section here (an important criteria for The Princess). Besides that, nothing much to shout about.

Of Vote For Bakh!
Monday, April 14, 2008
OK lar, I don't usually do this, but one of my friends is in the running for the CLEO Most Eligible Bachelor title, so I'm doing a lil blog-pimping for him.

BACHELOR NO : 45
NAME : Bahktiar Affendi Azman
OCCUPATION : News Editor, News Journalist,
Newsreader, Writer
AGE : 30
ZODIAC : Libra
FAVE HANGOUT: Climb 5, 1 Utama, movies
TALENT : Martial arts, outdoor activities
To get more juicy details and to vote for Bakh, do check this out.
I first knew Bakh in the final year of graduate school. We both took up Theatre and had the most fun staging a production at the end of the semester. And he saved my life by loaning his late grandmother's kain batik for the props (I was in charge of Wardrobe, see). Bakh is easy-going, fun and a good conversationalist. Very metro sexual too, yo. And I almost always saw him in his Taekwando/Karate pants.
Peeps, do vote for him a'ight. There are many subsidiary titles as well, hentam only his name in all categories. And oh, there are goodies up for grab for those who correctly predict the winners.
When you're waiting for the water to boil, login and vote for Bakh. When the TV advertisement kicks in, login and vote and Bakh. When you're waiting for your BF to pick you up (bloody bastard is late again), login and vote for Bakh. When you simply has nothing to do, login and vote for Bakh. Pakai click aje the mouse, free ape. But don't overdo it though, do not want any of you to get Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, dahling.

Of Wedding Bells and Confettis
Friday, March 14, 2008
The Princess is down with flu ever since she got back from KL. The same night after arriving from KL in the morning, she reported for work as she only has sore throat. Upon arriving in Hong Kong, she was still OK, but after eating the durian pomelo dessert, she was down with fever as well. Padan muka lar, eat durian. But the dessert was so good, it was worth it.
Jac got married last Sunday. I'm sincerely happy for her. She found her modern fairy tale, her Popeye The Sailorman (all played out in forward motion). Maybe domestic life will suit her more than those whirlwind soap operas.
The wedding reception was held in Rahsia. The affair was simple and classy. Square bamboo and paper lanterns lined the pathway to the garden. The entrance to the hall was flanked by two pink cloth lanterns, billowing in the wind. Dinner was served buffet-style. Ken Lee was very happy cos the alcohol was free-flow. Diana was very happy cos the chicken rendang was very good.
The best sugee cake in KL and some
say Johor, according to Nesh
The two kecoh girls in The Sandpit, now gone
She's pretending like she didn't see me taking her photo
The wedding favour, very heavy candle holder from Angsana Spa
Showing off my manicure the wedding favour

Not forgetting a big shout-out to Arfoo, who proposed to Sue in Bali. Congrats! A surprise party was planned by Siah and Co. for Sue at Decanter, who didn't have a clue about it. Siap pasang banner lagi, don't play play. Everyone was hiding behind car lar, tree lar and pillar. The moment Sue got out from the car, she was greeted by colourful confettis.

Arfoo was thinking "Yor, same same,
both also have rope around the neck"
I'm sick and tired of cupcakes lor. Tak makan, tak makan, sekali makan, makan dua kali. Jac's sister brought cupcakes for her hen's night. Naughty cupcakes. And forced everyone to lick the frosting. FYI, the frosting looks like this OK?

Kena force to lick the cupcake by her crazy sister

Kena force to lick the cupcake by her crazy sisterDid she mention General Election is going on in Malaysia as well when's back? Yeah, her trip this time really coincided with a lot of things. Even one of the crew operating the flight she was on is Ken Lee's friend. Met up with her at One U before bringing her to dinner with Ken Lee. Man, that Taiwanese girl was so surprised at the way our gong bau ji ding (stir-fried chicken in dried chillies) is prepared, contained in a yam ring. Nevertheless, she liked it very much and happily tucked into pai guat (pork ribs).
With Alicia, Kelly and Ken Lee at Green View RestaurantNow you know why she's sick. Too much extra curricular activities.
